Dj Premier is looking to squeeze in work for R2

October 23, 2009

“Preemo is also looking to squeeze in work for Eminem’s upcoming Relapse 2, for which Just Blaze is already a confirmed collaborator. Since he’s kicking off a DJ tour in Europe this week, however, time is once again working against him.
“[Eminem and I] spoke about doing some beats. My schedule is just dumb crazy but there’s no way I want to miss an Eminem album,” Premier says. “But still the first thing is to handle what’s the most necessary, which is to get my artists up and running [NYGz, Blaq Poet] and close to releasing their music and then if there’s a window to work with him I’ll definitely do it.”
The producer explains that it’s just about getting face time with Marshall. “I literally cook it up right there on the spot and then that way it really sounds like we match,” he says. “I tailor the track to the artist and I love Eminem as an MC so I already pretty much know what to make.”

Eminem’s Relapse 2 Is ‘Comin’ Out Good,’ Just Blaze Says

October 23, 2009

Eminem has said that the forthcoming Relapse 2 will be more “emotionally driven,” and pointed out that he’s working with some new collaborators.

“[The album] is gonna be a lot different than people expect,” Eminem said in an interview on his Shade 45 satellite-radio station last week. “As far as the contrast from the last album to this one, I got a couple of tracks with [D12's] Mr. Porter, two tracks with him so far. Four, possibly five with Just Blaze. The overall basis of this record, I went back to songs that are more emotionally driven. The last record I made, I think I was concentrating more on spitting. On this album, I feel like there’s some of that, but I went back to songs with [feelings] to them as opposed to just rap records.”

Blaze — who has worked in the past with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Usher, Mariah Carey, and many others — talked about working with Eminem during an interview with Distortion to Static that was posted on Monday.

“Now that he’s put it out there, I am working with Eminem on his new album,” Blaze said. “We are working on Relapse 2 pretty heavily. As of yesterday, we’ve done about six or seven records. I go back in with him in a couple of weeks and do three or four more maybe. I’ve been quietly goin’ back forth from New York to Detroit the past two months, just gettin’ a feel for it and gettin’ a feel for working with each other. He hasn’t worked with too many people outside his camp. I haven’t worked with him before. We got a good working relationship now, a good friendship now, so the records is comin’ out good.”

While Eminem has kept a fairly low profile in the weeks since the first Relapse was released, he told Shady 45 that he’ll decide whether to go on tour after the second album is released.

It’s the label that brought acts like LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, Jay-Z and Ludacris to the world, and now, 25 years after it launched in a New York University dorm room, Def Jam Records continues to lead the way, boasting a roster that includes the likes of Kanye West and Rihanna.

And on October 13, a host of elite artists — including Eminem, Rick Ross, Mary J. Blige, Young Jeezy, Ludacris and Fabolous — will celebrate Def Jam’s 25th anniversary with performances at VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors 2009″ show. But they’re not the only ones lining up to pay their respects. DMX, Method Man and Redman, the Roots, Kid Rock, Trey Songz, Ja Rule, Onyx, Warren G and Public Enemy are also scheduled to perform at the sixth-annual Honors, which will be taped at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House and premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT on October 13 on VH1. “30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan will once again serve as host for the evening. Chris Rock, Jimmy Fallon and Brett Ratner will be on hand as presenters.

Fans can go to HipHop.VH1.com now to comment on this year’s lineup and to weigh in on what they’d like to hear at the show. Drake Ft. Lil Wayne, Kanye West & Eminem “Forever” [Download]

It takes a king to get hip-hop’s biggest names on one song, and this year, NBA superstar LeBron James is that king.

Last year, T.I. recruited Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West to appear on his track, “Swagga Like Us,” which the four performed at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

And now, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Drake have teamed up for a song slotted for the forthcoming LeBron James documentary, More Than a Game.

Earlier this week, Young Money president Mack Maine told MTV News about the track, titled “Forever.” An early version of the song — featuring Wayne, Drake, Nut Da Kidd and produced by Boi-1da (Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” and “Uptown”) — has already hit the Internet, but this week, the version with some of hip-hop’s hottest MC’s is expected to debut.

“They re-did it, it got mixed over the weekend, now it’s getting mastered,” Maine said on Monday.

“Forever” will appear as part of a collection of tracks inspired by the film (due in theaters October 2), with the soundtrack coming on September 22 on Interscope Records. Polow Da Don will executive produce the set, which will also include songs by T.I., Mary J. Blige, and Young Jeezy, according to Rich Paul, who works with James as a part of their marketing company LRMR.

Paul said that originally “Forever” was just going to be Drake and Kanye West.

“It was done, it was just Drake and Kanye, and then they went back and got two more prolific talents and it just made it even crazier, ” Paul told MTV News late Tuesday. “They blessed Drake crazy.”

The song came together when Gee Roberson, an executive at Atlantic Records who also manages West and helps to oversee the careers of Drake and Wayne, visited LeBron during the playoffs in May.

“He came over and played this — it was me, LeBron and Maverick [Carter, James' manager],” said Paul, who will co-executive produce the project for James’ camp. “And he played the track, it was hot. It went right with the movie, it was like perfect for a moment that you want to be forever. And when he decided to put Wayne, Drake, Kanye and Eminem on it [together], it just makes it better. It’s one of those songs fans will really want to hear forever. It’s that type of feeling.”

Lil Wayne has long expressed a desire to rap alongside Eminem on a track — and now, he’s done it.

As previously reported by RapRadar.com, the track will be billed as Drake, featuring the rest of the MCs.

But Mack Maine revealed the song may be getting a last-minute addition.

“There’s gonna be an unexpected feature on the hook,” he said. “Right now we have three different R&B singers writing the hook to see who comes up with the best one. I’mma be shocked. So I can’t tell you who it’s gonna be.”

On the original, Drake performs double duty, rapping and singing the chorus.

And while “Swagga Like Us” was performed on the Grammys but never got a video, plans call for Drake, Wayne, West, and Em to shoot a clip for “Forever” next month in New York, Paul said, directed by Hype Williams.
